This wine vibrant purple-violet in colour. The aromas are ripe red fruits, spices, and liquorice, with a structured palate that balances firm tannins with fruity richness. The finish reveals harmonious complexity and depth, typical of the Morgon appellation
Winemaker and Winemaking
The winemaker is Maison Joseph Drouhin in partnership with the Hospices de Belleville. This collaboration began in 2014 and focuses on producing exceptional wines from Beaujolais crus like Morgon, Brouilly, and Fleurie. Part of the harvest undergoes Burgundy-style vinification with destemming, punch-downs, and pump-overs.
The remainder undergoes whole-bunch semi-carbonic maceration for 10-15 days. The wines are aged 10-12 months in large 500-liter oak casks. Wines from carbonic maceration are aged in stainless steel. The final cuvée blends these styles.
The Vineyards
Founded in Beaune in 1880, Maison Joseph Drouhin’s cellars have spread from the historical Cellars of the Dukes of Burgundy and the Kings of France in Beaune (12th-18th centuries) to the Moulin de Vaudon, an 18th Century watermill in Chablis. Today, the fourth generation is at the helm leading the way in both France and Oregon. The vineyard, "Château Gaillard," spans 12 acres in the northern village of Villié-Morgon, Beaujolais. It has a south-eastern orientation.
The terroir comprises flaky crystalline rock enriched with iron oxide and manganese, contributing to the wine's minerality and structure. The region benefits from a temperate climate, ideal for cultivating Gamay
