Bastille Day @ Annata

  • Annata 66 Chandos Street St Leonards, NSW, 2065 Australia (map)

Annata presents Bastille Day; a four-course French-inspired dining journey through the great wine regions of France, from Champagne to the Northern Rhone, held on Tuesday 14th July 2026, commencing at 7:00pm. Your host will be French raconteur Tom Ghoul. Executive Chef Jordon Garcia has curated a stunning French menu which matches beautifully with our wines. See below.

Tom's passion for French wine is rooted in first-hand experience. He has spent years walking vineyards, tasting from barrel, and discussing soil, pruning and fermentation with the people who make the wine. His storytelling — always generous, sometimes cheeky, and always grounded in real insight — adds colour and context to every pour.

The evening opens with Jordon’s Cod Rillette — silky and briny with cornichon and grilled baguette — alongside the pristine Maison Waris-Hubert Cuvée “Estence” 1er Cru Champagne, a wine of beautiful finesse and mineral depth. The first course brings a Classic Steak Tartare, bold and precise, paired with the cool mineral tension of Vincent Gaudry’s 2021 Sancerre “Mélodie de Vieilles Vignes” and the rich, textured 2023 Domaine Chenu & Filles “Les Bruchots” Chardonnay from Burgundy. For the second course, a delicate NZ John Dory prepared Grenobloise — brown butter, lemon, capers and croutons — is beautifully framed by the vibrant red fruit of Domaine Raphaël Chopin’s 2023 Cru Morgon Gamay alongside the silky elegance of Michel Maginen’s 2022 “Les Graviers” Pinot Noir. The centrepiece brings a classic Duck à l’Orange with pomme purée and fennel, its richness finding its ideal match in the powerful 2022 Clos de Gamot Malbec from Cahors — the ancestral home of the grape — and the structured, peppery 2022 Crozes-Hermitage “Around the Rhone” from Domaine Garon. To finish we have a Long Pepper Crème Brûlée with Cardamon Palmier with the 2022 La Pigade Muscat Beaumes de Venise from the Rhône Valley — a gloriously perfumed, honeyed wine that brings the evening to a luminous and memorable conclusion.
