Annata invites you to experience an extraordinary evening of discovery with our South African Wine Safari, a curated journey through one of the world’s most dynamic and rapidly evolving wine regions. With a winemaking history dating back to 1659, South Africa is one of the oldest New World wine regions, and today it stands at the forefront of global innovation. Jancis Robinson’s recent review confirmed that South Africa is producing world-class wines, particularly whites, with Stellenbosch Cabernet emerging as a standout, all while offering exceptional value and a new wave of producers focused on freshness, balance and terroir.
The evening begins with a vibrant Blanc de Blancs, setting the tone for a progression of expressive white wines, including Grenache Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay, each showcasing purity, texture and regional identity. From the windswept vineyards of Swartland to the maritime influence of Walker Bay and the historic soils of Stellenbosch, each wine tells a compelling story of place. As the menu unfolds, guests will explore a selection of contemporary reds, from lifted Pinot Noir and savoury Grenache to structured Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, culminating in a super-premium Pinotage that reflects both the heritage and future of South African viticulture.
Executive Chef Jordon Garcia has crafted a South African inspired five-course menu to complement and elevate each wine, creating a seamless dialogue between food and wine that is both refined and engaging. Throughout the evening, guests will be guided through the wines, their origins and the stories behind the producers shaping South Africa’s modern wine landscape.
Our host will be South African Wine expert, Gary Barber who developed his deep wine knowledge as the National Purchasing Manager for South Africa’s largest premium wine retailer; often working directly with winemaker members of the Cape Wine Makers Guild. He has built lasting commercial relationships with many of the top regional wineries which continue to this day for his South African wine importing business. He will share his deep knowledge and wine stories as he guides us through our celebration of South African viticulture.
