Grand Vino & Truffles Degustation

  • Annata 66 Chandos Street St Leonards, NSW, 2065 Australia (map)

Annata presents Grand Vino & Truffles — an evening of extraordinary Italian wines paired with the earthy magnificence of the season’s finest truffles. Held over two exclusive evenings on Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th July 2026, commencing at 7:00pm, this is a rare opportunity to explore the breadth of Italian viticulture, from the alpine freshness of the Alto Adige to the great Nebbiolo vineyards of Piedmont and the sun-warmed estates of Umbria. Executive Chef Jordon Garcia has crafted a menu that honours both the vine and the truffle in equal measure.

The truffle is perhaps the most extraordinary ingredient in the culinary world — mysterious, seasonal and impossible to replicate. Buried beneath the soil of ancient oak forests and coaxed out by trained dogs, it transforms every dish it graces with an intensity that lingers long after the last bite. Jordon’s menu has been designed to let the truffle lead, supported by ingredients of equal quality and cooking of quiet confidence — a menu of genuine occasion, one that asks the wines to rise to its ambition and finds them more than equal to the task.

The evening opens with Ferrari Maximum Blanc de Blanc — Trentino’s answer to great Champagne, its fine perlage and brioche freshness the ideal aperitivo welcome. The first course presents white Italy in two registers: the 2024 Tibaldi Favorita from the Langhe, with its delicate floral aromatics and crisp stone fruit, alongside the 2021 Weingut Niklas Kerner from the Alto Adige, bringing the cool precision and fragrance of Italy’s German-speaking north. Course two moves deeper into Piedmont’s rare indigenous whites: the 2022 Enrico Rivetto Nascetta “Vigna Lirano” — intense, structured and hauntingly mineral — paired with the 2022 Vigneti Repetto Quadro Timorasso, a wine of remarkable complexity from the Colli Tortonesi. With course three the great reds arrive: Massimo Rivetti’s 2020 ‘Froi’ Barbaresco, brooding and fragrant with rose petal and tar, is joined by the 2020 Sadivino Maestroso Sangiovese Superiore, bringing the structured character of central Italy to the table. Course four ascends to the summit: Giovanni Manzone’s 2020 Barolo ‘Gramolere’ — one of the Langhe’s most prized single vineyards — stands alongside the formidable 2018 Perticaia Montefalco Sagrantino, Umbria’s great contribution to the world of wine. To close, the 2013 Cantalici Vin Santo arrives as liquid amber — a Tuscan meditation in a glass, its honey, walnut and dried fig complexity the perfect companion to Jordon’s truffle-kissed final course.
